North Star Reach offers life-changing camp experiences for children with serious health challenges and their families, free of charge.
The use of a compass for navigation can be traced back to the 11th century. It was used to determine orientation showing direction relative to the geographic cardinal directions or “points” of north, south, east and west. In other words, it was a guide to help set course for a journey. Using this as a metaphor, we have chosen these points as our compass rose keeping the journey of CAMPERS, DONORS, VOLUNTEERS and STAFF aligned with our mission and focused on the magical transforming fun that is our destination.
OUR GUIDING VALUES:
1. Kids and families first.
Every plan, decision and action is framed around one goal, one destination, one vision and that is our focus on children and their families, they are our Polaris, our guiding North Star.
2. Camp is a Prescription for fun.
It’s not just a slogan, it’s what we do. We change the lives of our campers, families, volunteers and donors with fun…SeriousFun in fact. It is our business and our passion.
3. Practice Playful Professionalism.
Our goal of creating “spectacularly average” experiences for our campers requires covering both ends of the serious and fun spectrum. Our commitment to providing an innovative, outcome based yet authentic camp program while laughing so hard your belly hurts takes hard work.
4. Always Reach as High as you can.
Stand up and reach as high as you can. Go ahead and do it, we’ll wait. Now, reach a little higher. Stand on your tip toes and stretch for something you never thought possible. We are inspired by words like adventure, challenge, courage, exploration, growth and resilience to continually extend our reach beyond whatever boundaries are in front of us.
8. Well done is better than well said.
We hold ourselves to the highest standard to be responsible with our financial, human and community resources through innovation, thoughtfulness and organization. We are driven to be a community leader in sustainability, efficiency, accountability, trust and stewardship.
