About North Star Reach

North Star Reach is dedicated to providing life-changing camp experiences to children with serious medical conditions and their families—always at no cost. We empower kids to discover resilience, build friendships, and experience the joy of camp, thanks to the support of our donors, volunteers, and broader community.

Position Overview

If you believe that a glitter jar, a silly camp song, or a five-minute art project can brighten even the toughest medical day, this role is calling your name. As our OutReach Coordinator, you’ll carry camp spirit into hospital rooms, treatment centers, and waiting areas across Southeast Michigan, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary sparks of courage and joy.

In this hybrid role, you’ll design and deliver therapeutic camp-style activities alongside Child Life teams, bring laughter and belonging into clinical spaces, and help connect families to the full camp experience. And when you’re not in the hospitals? You’ll bring that same creativity and magic to our on-site programs at camp.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dream up and deliver therapeutic, playful, inclusive activities for pediatric patients.
  • Serve as the face of camp in hospitals, spreading joy, hope, and belonging with every interaction.
  • Support programming at camp, ensuring OutReach and on-site experiences feel beautifully connected.
  • Build strong partnerships with Child Life, volunteer services, and community collaborators.
  • Recruit and train volunteers, engage families, track program outcomes, and manage logistics.
  • Represent North Star Reach at community meetings, events, and outreach activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Life, Therapeutic Recreation, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting children with chronic or serious medical conditions.
  • A creative, flexible, joyful spirit, and the ability to hold space for both fun and vulnerability.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; comfort navigating hospital environments.
  • Willingness to travel frequently across Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties.

What You’ll Gain

  • The chance to brighten days for children receiving medical care.
  • Deep partnerships with hospital teams who share your love of healing through laughter and connection.
  • The joy of bringing camp’s transformational magic directly to kids who need it most.
